rikanee | juiceme: I'd be interested to try taming the watchdoggies. | 02:50 |

@juiceme | rikanee, :) | 10:15 |
rikanee | juiceme: I've also been trying to boot a custom kernel on Harmattan, but it simply bombs out. | 10:18 |
rikanee | It's the stock PR 1.3 kernel with Aegis patches and 2.6.32.55 patched on top. | 10:19 |
-!- faenil [~faenil@dynamic-adsl-78-13-108-51.clienti.tiscali.it] has joined #ubiboot | 10:23
@juiceme | rikanee, do you have access to serial console? | 10:38 |
rikanee | juiceme, nope. | 10:38 |
rikanee | I'm a bit squeamish to grab my breakout plugs and solder them to my N9 and motherboard. | 10:39 |
@juiceme | and I think I remember you said earlier that you were building a kernel that writes debug log to the display console when device is booting? | 10:39 |
rikanee | juiceme: tried that, no display even during the decompression stage. | 10:39 |
@juiceme | were you successful with that as I never managed to do it muself... | 10:39 |
@juiceme | yes, same with me. | 10:40 |
rikanee | god, harmattan is such a PITA to work with, I'll try booting Nemo with this instead | 10:40 |
rikanee | figuring out how to boot Harmattan with 32.60 kernel would be another exercise after I get everything nice and actually working | 10:41 |
@juiceme | about the soldering, I also thought first of that but JOnni adveced me that it's possible to build an adapter ot the simslot that lets you access the serial pins. | 10:41 |
Jonni | I'm also thinking of makeing a short howto video howto access n950 serial pins without soldering... but lets see | 10:41 |
@juiceme | So what I did is I ordered Nokia CA-42 adapter which is USB/TTL-level-RS232 converter and a spare sim tray from ebay. | 10:42 |
@juiceme | got the goods just last week, so now I need to build the adapter :) | 10:42 |
@juiceme | I am thinking of dismantling another phone to rip the springed contacts used for SIM access, and solder/glue those to the simtray in correct position. | 10:44 |
@juiceme | Jokki, what did you use for contact pins in your adapter? | 10:45 |
@juiceme | s/Jokki/Jonni/ | 10:45 |
rikanee | juiceme: by the way, what was that watchdog fix you were talking about? | 10:47 |
Jonni | heh mun eka versio oli kunnon hacki, jossa sulatin piuhat muoviliuskan sisään ja tinasin kohoumat oikeille paikoille. Ja pro versiossa mulla on jousiliittimet. | 10:48 |
@juiceme | rikanee, well, the thing is that on my device I never had any watchdog-related problems but Jonni adviced me that there was some timeout that caused the device to boot after a short delay when it was displaying the menu screen. So, on the (yet unreleased 090413 version) I added watchdog feedig which should help with that. I guess you troied it? | 10:51 |
@juiceme | Jonni, the soldering way is the easiest, you just need a steady hand and thin-bladed iron :) | 10:52 |
rikanee | I haven't seen the 090413 version, but I am getting the 'reboot on menu screen' on all kernels, just slightly more frequently with ones patched for L2 enable | 10:52 |
@juiceme | But I am aiming to make a spring-contact version. I just need to center the contact pins correctly. | 10:53 |
@juiceme | rikanee, try getting http://www.swagman.org/juice/zImage_2.6.32.54-ubiboot-02_090413 | 10:54 |
@juiceme | tell me if that's behaving differently | 10:54 |
rikanee | Alright, I'll try that. | 10:55 |
@juiceme | Jonni, I still am not sure where to connect GND pin, which of the slices next to tx&rx pins is OK? | 10:55 |
rikanee | juiceme: soldering pads/breakout sockets to where "Nokia N9" and other product info stickers are could work too | 10:55 |
rikanee | the pads/sockets would always be there, no need to change SIM slots | 10:56 |
rikanee | (you will need to hurt your N9 though) | 10:57 |
@juiceme | I was not aware of that, so there are pins behind the sticker? | 10:58 |
@juiceme | or do you mean, just drill a hole @that_location and just draw the wire thry it to the contacts under the sim tray? | 11:00 |
rikanee | the latter. | 11:00 |
rikanee | Putting cables into the SIM tray sounds like asking for potential snags. | 11:01 |
@juiceme | But with an adapter it's possible to debug other devices, and compare boot log for example on a device that refuses to boot. | 11:01 |
rikanee | ah. | 11:02 |
rikanee | alright, flashed the new 090413 build, going to test L2 patched kernels. | 11:03 |
@juiceme | fingers crossed... | 11:04 |
rikanee | still crashed, LED remained on, and returned to ubiboot menu. | 11:05 |
@juiceme | ... | 11:05 |
@juiceme | too bad. | 11:05 |
rikanee | Odd, it seemed to /lag/ while pulsing the Nokia logo, and then rebooted. | 11:05 |
@juiceme | But you are able to boot the open mode kernel without L2fix? | 11:05 |
rikanee | Occasionally, trying to boot the cloud-7 open mode kernel now. | 11:06 |
@juiceme | rikanee, what's the HWREV of your device, is it 1603? | 11:07 |
rikanee | there, it booted, but mthome launches painfully slowly. which sucks. | 11:08 |
rikanee | 1507. | 11:08 |
@juiceme | Okay, that's a new one for me. | 11:08 |
@juiceme | no, am mistaken. valdur55 also has 1507, and he had some problems with it. | 11:10 |
@juiceme | is it 16G or 64G, and what colour device? | 11:11 |
rikanee | 16G Black, the ones handed out for CA ;) | 11:11 |

@juiceme | Jonni, I still am not sure where to connect GND pin, which of the slices next to tx&rx pins is OK? | 11:57 |
ToAruShiroiNeko | juiceme I dont know how to check what I have | 14:49 |
ToAruShiroiNeko | I am not ignoring here its just that too much is happening at once :( | 14:49 |
@juiceme | ToAruShiroiNeko, hi | 14:51 |
@juiceme | I am not sure now what you are referring to? | 14:52 |
faenil | same here, lag with pulsing logo, and then reboot (l2fix kernel) | 15:48 |

Jonni | juiceme: both pins next to tx & rx are grounds if I remember right | 20:58 |
-!- faenil_ [~faenil@dynamic-adsl-78-13-110-178.clienti.tiscali.it] has quit [Quit: I'm leaving] | 21:53
@juiceme | Jonni, thanks. In the schematics those pins are J5600 and J5610, and I could not find those anywhere so I suppose the pins can both be ground then. | 22:05 |
valdur55 | Yep. I can't boot l2fixed kernel with ubiboot. I can use l2fixed kernel when i flash it in phone | 22:13 |
